Not a festival, but a celebration of the birth of a nation. Towns and villages throughout Maine come together to party, but also to remember those who sacrificed so much to preserve and protect America. July Fourth Activities Augusta - July 4, 2010. Bar Harbor - Independence Day Celebration - July 3rd & 4th, 2010. Events in Bar Harbor are as follows: Bath - Heritage Days - July 2-5, 2009. Four days of July 4th activities, with a fireworks finale at the Bath waterfront on July 5th. Biddeford - July 4, 2010. July 4th events in Biddeford will be posted when available. Boothbay Harbor - Old Fashioned Fourth of July Family Celebration on the Boothbay Common. Crafts, children's games, chicken barbeque. Live music all day. Fireworks in the evening. For info phone (207) 633-4825. Deer Isle - Stonington 4th of July - Early in the morning of the Fourth of July are the Road Races and Fun Run in Downtown Stonington. The parade is later in the morning in Deer Isle Village. The annual Fish and Fritter Fry starts in the late afternoon on the Stonington Fish Pier followed by fireworks over Stonington Harbor at nightfall. For info phone Ginger Lester at (207) 348-2676. Dexter - Fireworks on July 3. Eastport - 4th of July - Largest July 4th celebration in Maine. Grand Independence Parade, Fireworks over the Bay, free entertainment at Overlook Park, greasy pole and water sports, antique car show, contests and games for all ages with prizes. Traditionally, we have a visit from a U.S. Navy ship, providing free tours. Stay tuned to our website for updates. For info email info@kennebunkdowntown.com. Lewiston/Auburn Liberty Festival - July 4, 2009. The Lewiston Auburn Liberty Festival is an annual 4th of July event held along the riverfront. Begins at 4 p.m. on July 4th with bands, entertainment and food vendors. There is a lighting of the fireworks contest and a birthday party that is celebrated at the Hilton Garden Inn - tickets are $15. For info write to liberty@libertyfestival.org. Millinocket Independence Day Celebration - Independence Day celebration in Millinocket, Maine runs from June 27 through a July 4th parade and fireworks. For information about all events phone the Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce at (207) 723-4000. Moosehead Lake Region - The Moosehead Lake region comes alive celebrating Independence Day. Enjoy a day of fun at the Junction Wharf with games, a craft fair, and food. A parade will roll along the main streets of Greenville, and fireworks finish off the night. Ogunquit - July 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 2010 - Ogunquit Days features activities and events all around town and is sponsored by the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce. Portland - July 4, 2009. Annual 4th of July Festival. Bring the family, chairs and blankets, and enjoy the fireworks display at the Eastern Promenade at Munjoy Hill. Fireworks start after dusk. Food vendors on site. Please park off Munjoy Hill and walk up. Please leave pets at home. Cancellation line is (207) 756-8130. Thomaston - July 4, 2009. This is a large traditional small town July 4th with pancake breakfast, big parade, entertainment, pet show, horseshoe tournament, firecracker races, baking contest, chicken barbeque, music, crafts, children's activities and fireworks. Winslow - Pageant on June 27, 2009, fireworks on the 4th of July, a parade and more. Huge celebration of Independence Day, including "The largest parade in the State of Maine." The evening fireworks display is at Fort Halifax Park. Winthrop - Norcross Point, Winthrop. Thousands of folks visit Winthrop each year for the annual Fourth of July fireworks display overlooking beautiful Maranacook Lake and Norcross Point. 6 a.m. (July 3rd): Blueberry Pancake Breakfast MDI Rotary Club, Bar Harbor Athletic Field, Park Street. Blueberry or plain pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee.
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (July 3rd): Craft Fair/Marketplace At the MDI YMCA, 21 Park Street A wonderful selection of Maine crafts, including jewelry, quilts, photographs, pottery, and porcelain dolls.
10 a.m. (July 3rd): Independence Day Parade in which the community shows off its patriotism and good humor. Parade route winds through downtown Bar Harbor.
11 a.m. (July 3rd): Seafood Festival MDI Rotary Club, Bar Harbor Athletic Field, Park Street. Enjoy lobster, mussels, corn, strawberry shortcake and more! After the Parade, MDI YMCA Annual Lobster Races! Bar Harbor Athletic Field, Park Street Watch local businesses put their lobsters to the test in this high-speed crustacean contest.
