July Fourth Activities

Ashland - Ashland Summerfest includes fireworks on July 8, 2012 at the Ashland Fish & Game Club at 9:15 p.m. For more info phone (207) 435-6363.


Augusta - July 4, 2012 The culmination of the Whatever Family Festival (which runs from June 20 through July 4) is a big bash at the Riverfront in Waterfront Park in Augusta on July 4th. For info phone parade coordinator Wendy Somes at (207) 626-2350 or the KVCC at 623-4559. The fireworks are on July 4, 2012 at around 9 p.m. at the East Side boat landing (rain date July 5, 2012).


Bangor & Brewer - The Bangor-Brewer July 4th parade is the largest parade in Maine with over 1,000 participants. Viewed by over 30,000 people, the parade will be held on Wednesday, July 4th in 2012. The parade starts in Brewer at Acme Street at 11 a.m. and goes down Wilson Street, across the Chamberlain Bridge into Bangor and then down Main Street to State & Exchange Streets where it disburses. The theme of this year's parade is to be determined. The Grand Marshals will be the five area Kiwanis Club presidents. For more info contact Doug at cdicemom@aol.com or (207) 949-4735. Later on in the afternoon there will be a concert on the Bangor Waterfront followed, in the evening, by a fireworks display also on the Bangor waterfront on July 4, 2012 (rain date July 5).


Bar Harbor - Independence Day Celebration - July 4th, 2012. Events in Bar Harbor are as follows (all on July 4th in 2012). For more info phone the Bar Harbor Visitor Center at (207) 288-5103 but the scheduled events currently are as follows:
6 a.m.: Blueberry Pancake Breakfast at the MDI Rotary Club, Bar Harbor Athletic Field, Park Street. Blueberry or plain pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee.
9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Craft Fair/Marketplace At the MDI YMCA, 21 Park Street. A wonderful selection of Maine crafts, including jewelry, quilts, photographs, pottery, and porcelain dolls.
10 a.m.: Independence Day Parade in which the community shows off its patriotism and good humor. Parade route winds through downtown Bar Harbor. The theme in 2012 is Red, White, Blue & Green.
11 a.m.: Seafood Festival by MDI Rotary Club, Bar Harbor Athletic Field, Park Street. Enjoy lobster, mussels, corn, strawberry shortcake and more! After the Parade, MDI YMCA Annual Lobster Races! Bar Harbor Athletic Field, Park Street. Watch local businesses put their lobsters to the test in this high-speed crustacean contest. Proceeds benefit the MDI YMCA. 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.: Bar Harbor Town Band. Free concert on the Bar Harbor Village Green, Main & Mt. Desert Streets.
8 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.: Concert at the Pier/Agamont Park by Downeast Brass.
9:15 p.m. (approx): Fireworks over Frenchman Bay while Downeast Brass plays music to go along with the pyrotechnics (rain date July 5).


Bath Heritage Days - July 4-8, 2012. Five days of July 4th activities, with a fireworks finale at the Bath waterfront on Saturday, July 7th at 9 p.m.


Bethel - Private fireworks behind the Bethel Inn Resort on July 7, 2012 at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 8, 2012). Also in Bethel is the Annual Fourth of July Community Picnic. This annual event begins at 11:30 a.m. on the side lawn of the Dr. Moses Mason House (14 Broad Street). Bring your lunch and after the presentation of colors and the National Anthem, enjoy a two-hour concert by the Portland Brass Quintet. Dr. Mason began this Fourth of July tradition in the 1850s and the Bethel Historical Society carries it on today. In case of rain, the picnic and concert will be held in the Middle Intervale Meetinghouse (1816) on Intervale Road, approximately four miles downriver from Bethel Hill village. Belgrade - Public fireworks at the peninsula part of Long Pond on July 4, 2012 at 9:20 p.m. (rain date July 5).


Boothbay Harbor - Old Fashioned Fourth of July Family Celebration on the Boothbay Common.  Crafts, children's games, chicken barbeque.  Live music all day. Fireworks in the evening of July 4th over the harbor on a barge near McFarland Island (rain date July 5, 2012). For info phone (207) 633-4825.


Bridgton - Fireworks on July 3, 2012 at about 9:10 p.m. at the gravel pit at Stevens Brook School (rain date July 5, 2012).


Brooks - Fireworks on July 4, 2012 at about 9:30 p.m. at Community Park in Brooks (rain date July 5, 2012).


Camden - Midcoast organizations team up to offer four days of fun in the midcoast over the Fourth of July holiday period. Concerts, family events, parades, and fireworks on July 4, 2012 at 8 p.m. between Curtis Island and Camden Harbor. There will be fun and afforable options for all tastes. Carrabassett Valley - Fireworks on July 4, 2012 at the Carrabassett Valley Airport at about 9 p.m.


Casco - Fireworks open to the public on July 2, 2012 on a raft offshore at Point Sebago Resort at dusk. (rain date July 3, 2012).


Castine - Fireworks on July 4, 2012 on floats at 9 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2012).


Cliff Island - Fireworks (apparently private, but check with the locals to make sure) on July 8, 2012 from the barge off the Cliff Island town landing (rain date July 9, 2012).


Damariscotta - Fireworks off Gay's Point in Damariscotta on July 4, 2012 at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 5).


Deer Isle - Stonington - 2012 Independence Day celebration activities are on July 4th. Events include Parade & Music in Deer Isle, 10K & Walking races in Stonington, food, parade, entertainment & fireworks over Stonington Harbor at nightfall (rain date July 5). Denmark - Public Fireworks on July 7, 2012 at 4 Wheel Trail off Picket Hill Road at 9 p.m. (rain date July 8).


Dexter - Fireworks on July 3, 2012 at Dexter High School Football Field at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 4, 2012).


East Millinocket - Fireworks on July 6, 2012 at about 9:15 p.m. at the Katahdin Paper Mill (rain date July 7, 2012). See also Millinocket.


Easton - Easton Field Days includes public fireworks on July 7, 2012 at around 9:30 p.m. at the Easton High School Athletic Field (rain date July 8, 2012).


Eastport - 4th of July - Largest July 4th celebration in Maine, with events scheduled from Canada Day on July 1st (with Fireworks on Deer Island Point Park in New Brunswick, Canada at dusk that evening) through Independence Day on July 4th, 2012 (also with Fireworks that evening, rain date July 5). There are literally dozens of scheduled events, including Grand Independence Parade, Fireworks over the Bay, free entertainment at Overlook Park, greasy pole and water sports, antique car show, contests and games for all ages with prizes. Traditionally, we have a visit from a U.S. Navy ship, providing free tours.  Stay tuned to our website for updates.


Fayette - Fireworks (private) on July 4, 2012 at around 9 p.m. on the docks at the camp in Fayette (rain date July 5, 2012).


Freeport - 4th of July - L.L. Bean 10K Road Race, parade, free concerts and more at Discovery Park. The L.L. Bean 100th Anniversary Celebration continues through July 7 in Freeport, culminating with one of the largest fireworks displays ever seen in Maine at the Ballfield at Pine Tree Academy on July 7, 2012 at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 8, 2012). Frye Island - Fireworks at the Long Beach Marina on Frye Island on July 7, 2012 at 9:30 p.m. (rain date July 8).


Grand Lake Stream - Grand Lake Stream, America is an annual, day-long celebration of Independence Day. July 4, 2012 events include:
7 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Breakfast at Town Office Building
8 a.m. to 9 a.m.: Register for the Grand Lake Stream Race
9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Kids games in the park
10 a.m.: Food tent opens
11 a.m.: Best Parade by a Dam Site

Jackman - Due to the weather, the 4th of July fireworks in Jackman have been rescheduled for Saturday, July 7, 2012 at the Jackman Town Hall field. Sponsored by the Town of Jackman. For more info phone (207) 668-4171.


Jay - Fireworks on July 3, 2012 at Spruce Mountain Ski Area at 9 p.m. (rain date is July 5).


Kennebunk - Kennebunk area fireworks are on July 4, 2012 at Gooch's Beach at dusk (rain date July 5). For info email info@kennebunkdowntown.com or see the Town of Kennebunk calendar. Also enjoy Kennebunk Old Home Week activities from July 2nd to July 7th, 2012.


Kennebunkport - Nonantum Resort July 4 Lobsterbake & Live Entertainment Under the Stars. Beginning at 6 p.m. on July 4, the Nonantum Resort will have dinner & entertainment & fireworks under the stars. The menu will include New England clam chowder, fresh fruit medley, house salad and pasta salad, Maine Lobster, Prime Rib, Chef True's Famous Blueberry Maple Chipotle Ribs, Maine Mussels, corn on the cob, baked Maine potato, cole slaw, strawberry shortcake station and ice cream bar. The event will include live entertainment by The Alumni Band at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. Face painting and activities will be available for children. There is a fee for this event as follows: $60 per person. Children 12 and under $25. Children under 4 are free. Prices are inclusive of dinner (one lobster per person), concert and fireworks. Cash bar will be available. Reservations are requested.


Lewiston/Auburn Liberty Festival and Facebook - July 4, 2012. The Lewiston Auburn Liberty Festival is an annual 4th of July event held along the riverfront. Begins at 4 p.m. on July 4th with bands, entertainment and food vendors. There is a lighting of the fireworks contest and a birthday party that is celebrated at the Hilton Garden Inn. Fireworks on July 4, 2012 at 9:30 p.m. at West Pich Park over Looking Falls in Auburn (rain date July 5). For info write to info@libertyfestival.org.


Liberty, Maine - 3rd Annual 4th of July Boat Parade. The 3rd Annual 4th of July Boat Parade will be held at "Little Lake St. George", Liberty, Maine on Saturday, July 2nd. Limestone - Fireworks on the beach on Trafton Lake in Limestone, Maine on July 4 at 9 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2012).


Livermore - Fireworks on either July 6 or July 7, 2012 at around 9:30 p.m. on Route 108 in the wetland area below the knoll in Livermore (please check with town for correct date).


Lubec - The Lubec 2012 Independence Day Celebration features a panoply of activities. Leading up to the event, on Friday,June 29, 2012 is the Little Miss Pageant. Then on July 4th 2012 the events will include an Historical Society Lady's Club Yard Sale, a Raffle Table, a Booster Club Rubber Ducky Sale, a Boy Scout Kayak Raffle, Children's foot races, a sawdust pile and kids games. On July 6 there will be a community bonfire (location depending on wind condition). This will be followed by the first Memory Lantern Release at 8:30 p.m. at the beach (again depending on wind conditions). Lanterns are $8 and benefit the Lost Fishermen's Memorial and the Lubec 4th of July Committee. Fireworks will be on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Lubec Harbor at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 14, 2012). Machias - Fireworks on July 4, 2012 on Middle River at 9:15 p.m. (rain date August 18, 2012).


Millinocket Independence Day Celebration - 2012 Independence Day celebration in Millinocket on Wednesday, July 4th, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. followed by fireworks at dusk (rain date July 5). There will be vendors in Veteran's Memorial Park in Millinocket. Then, a parade at 11 a.m followed by activities in the park including Whoopie pie contest, pie auction, free cupcakes, free watermelon table, The Pat Colwell Band from noon to 3 p.m. at the Bandstand and a chicken BBQ. Naples - Fireworks (public) on a barge on Long Lake in Naples on July 4, 2012 (rain date July 5). Also fireworks (private) on July 4, 2012 at the Camp Mataponi dock on Sebago Lake at 9 p.m. (rain date July 5).


New Harbor - Public Reading of Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2012 - In honor of the 237th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Colonial Pemaquid will have a public reading of this historic document, along with commentary by a living history interpreter. The reading will be at Colonial Pemaquid at 2 p.m. on July 4, 2013. Rain date is Saturday, July 6.


Ogunquit - Fireworks on July 4, 2012 on Ogunquit's Main Beach east of the parking lot at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2012). In addition, DJ Jaz will spin tunes prior to the fireworks. For more info call the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce at (207) 646-2939.


Old Orchard Beach - Fireworks displays are held every Thursday from June 21, 2012 through Labor Day in Old Orchard Beacch. As for Indepdence Day activities, on July 3rd there will be a family sand sculpture contest on the beach from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. On July 4 there is a parade starting at 10 a.m. and a band concert with line and square dancing. Otis - Fireworks on July 4th on Otis Pond at 9 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2012).


Oxford - Fireworks on July 4, 2012 at about 9:15 p.m. in the center of the track area at the Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford (rain date July 5, 2012).


Phippsburg - Fireworks on July 1, 2012 over the lake by the Sebasco Harbor Resort in Phippsburg at around 9 p.m. (rain date July 2, 2012).


Poland Spring - Private fireworks on July 3, 2012 at the Poland Spring Golf Course at Poland Spring Resort at dusk (rain date July 5, 2012).


Portland - July 4, 2012. The annual 4th of July Festival in Portland is the Stars and Stripes Spectacular. On July 4th bring the family, chairs and blanket for a free Patriotic Pops Concert by the Portland Symphony Orchestra from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. At approximately 9:15 p.m. enjoy a fireworks display over Casco Bay from the East End Promenade. Rangeley - July 3, 2012. Rangeley Independence Day Celebration with Children's Day Parade, Silent Auction, Arts & Crafts Show, fireworks at Lakeside Park. Event is from 10 a.m. to dusk (fireworks rain date is July 4, 2012).


Rumford - Fireworks on July 4, 2012 at Hosmer Field Athletic Complex at 9 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2012).


Saco - Fireworks on July 3, 2012 at the Funtown/Splashtown USA rear parking lot at 9:30 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2012).


Sanford - 2012 Independence Day events in Sanford start on July 2, 2012 with a performance by the Strafford Wind Symphony at Goodall Park at 6:30 p.m. The next day, July 3, features a Maine Attraction Water Ski Show at Number 1 Pond at 6 p.m. followed by Fireworks, also on July 3, 2012 at Number 1 Pond by Riverside and Emery Roads at 9 p.m. (rain date is July 5, 2012). The next day, July 4 itself, there will be a parade starting at 10 a.m. on Main Street in Sanford from Dairy Queen to Gowen Park Drive. Scarborough - Fireworks at the Old Scarborough Dump on July 3, 2012 at 9:15 p.m. (rain dates July 4, 6 & 7).


Searsport - There is usually an Independence Day bake sale, craft show and parade sponsed by the Methodist Church. In the evening of July 4, 2012, there are fireworks at Mosman Park at 9 p.m. (rain date July 7, 2012). For more info contact Harriet at the Town Office at (207) 548-6372.


South Harpswell - Fireworks on July 3, 2012 at 70 Whites Point Road at 9:15 p.m.


South Portland - Come join the fun at Bug Light Park where the South Portland Historical Society will host its 2012 Fourth of July South Portland. The museum will open at 10 a.m. and the barbecue will start at 11 a.m. Hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage sandwiches and more will be available for reasonable prices. From 11 a.m. to noon, Rob Schreiber's Standard Issue Jazz Band will be performing. At 12 noon, we will enjoy a lively reading of the Declaration of Independence by Benjamin Franklin. Afternoon activities for kids will include old-fashioned games at 1:30 p.m., followed by Lobster Lore, an educational program sponsored by Weathervane Seafoods, at 2 p.m. Celebrate our nation's birthday with a picnic and games at the park, watch the kite flying (or fly your own) and take in the spectacular views of Casco Bay. Don't forget to stay for the fireworks!


Thomaston - July 4, 2012. This is a large traditional small town Independence Day celebration with pancake breakfast, big parade, entertainment, pet show, horseshoe tournament, Kids 1 Mile Fun Run, Adult 5K Firecracker Race, baking contest, chicken barbeque, music, crafts, children's activities and fireworks at night (rain date July 5). Turner - Fireworks on July 4, 2012 on ball field by Turner Center Road at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 5).


Waterboro - Fireworks on July 7, 2012 at about 9:30 p.m. at Massabesic High School in Waterboro (rain date July 8, 2012).


Winslow - Many 2012 are scheduled including 4th of July Flea Market on June 2 at Fort Halifax Park, Softball Tournament on June 16 at 8 a.m. at Winslow High School, 4th of July Pageant on June 30 at Winslow Junior High School at 6 p.m., 4th Idol Competition at Fort Halifax Park at 6 p.m., parade and fireworks on July 4th (fireworks rain date July 5, 2012). Huge celebration of Independence Day, including "The largest parade in the State of Maine."  The evening fireworks display is at Fort Halifax Park.


Winthrop - Norcross Point, Winthrop.  Thousands of folks visit Winthrop each year for the annual Fourth of July fireworks display overlooking beautiful Maranacook Lake and Norcross Point.  The fireworks start at dusk (around 9 p.m.) on July 4th, 2012 (rain date July 5). York - Fireworks on July 4, 2012 at around 9:30 p.m. at the Barge by Ellis Park Sand Beach in York (rain date July 5, 2012).
