July Fourth Activities
(Note to all: Please be patient. Most towns don't finalize their July 4 activities until June. While things usually stay the same from year to year, I like to hold off on the dates & events until I have more definitive information, but am updating as I can. The 2015 July 4 activities for many of Maine's larger towns & cities already have been updated as you can see below.
Ashland - Ashland Summerfest includes fireworks on July 5, 2015 at the Ashland Fish & Game Club at 9:15 p.m. For more info phone (207) 435-2176.
Augusta - July 4, 2015 is the culmination of the Whatever Family Festival (which runs from June 17 through July 4). Big bash at the Riverfront in Waterfront Park in Augusta on July 4th. For info phone parade coordinator Wendy Somes at (207) 626-2350 or the KVCC at 623-4559. The fireworks are on July 4, 2015 at around 9 p.m. at the East Side boat landing (rain date undetermined).
Bangor - Annual Bangor Independence Day celebration. It starts on July 4th, 2015 with a pancake breakfast at the Brewer Auditorium from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. This is followed by a parade starting at 11 a.m. that works its way from Brewer, across the Penobscot River to Bangor. Festivities, including a free concert, continue on the Bangor Waterfront from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., culminating with fireworks over the Penobscot River on the 4th.
Bar Harbor - Independence Day Celebration - According to the 2015 Visitor Guide (select Page 32-Page 33 from the drop-down box), the Bar Harbor Fourth of July Celebration has been "[v]oted as one of the best small town Fourth of July celebrations in the country. Come on down to Bar Harbor for a fun-filled day beginning with a blueberry pancake breakfast on the town's athletic field, before enjoying the parade. Then head down to the waterfront for the afternoon concert series that begins at 3 p.m. and goes all the way up the fireworks," which will be on July 4, 2015 at the pier on Frenchman Bay. Specific events listed for 2015 are a Blueberry Pancake Breakfast (6 a.m.), Craft Fair (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), Parade (10 a.m.), Seafood Festival (11 a.m.), Lobster Races (post-parade), Bar Harbor Town Band (3 p.m.) and fireworks (9:15 p.m.) For more info and a complete schedule of events phone the Bar Harbor Visitor Center at (207) 288-5103.
Bath Heritage Days - July 2-5, 2015. Four days of July 4th activities, with a fireworks finale at the Bath waterfront on Sunday, July 5th at 9:15 p.m.
Beals - Fireworks on July 5, 2014 at Perio Point on the A.C. Inc. property firing over the water at around 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 6).
Bethel - Fireworks on July 3, 2014 at the Bethel Inn Golf Course on Maple Hill Road at 9:30 p.m. (rain date July 6). For info phone the Inn at (207) 824-2175
Boothbay & Boothbay Harbor - Fourth of July 2015 in Boothbay starts with a family-friendly celebration on the Boothbay Common with crafts (a two-day craft show), children's games, chicken barbeque and music. Head on over to Boothbay Harbor in the evening for fireworks over the Harbor. Fired from a barge near McFarland Island, the fireworks begin at 9 p.m. on the 4th.
Bridgton - The 2015 Independence Day Celebration in Bridgton occurs on July 3rd on the grounds of the Stevens Brook School. Starting at about 10 a.m. in the morning there are crafters, food vendors, and a community band performing on the gazebo. The fireworks begin at about 9 p.m. in the evening of July 3rd, also at Stevens Brook School. For more info call the Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce at (207) 647-3472.
Brooks - Fireworks on July 4, 2014 at about 9 p.m. at Community Park in Brooks (rain date July 6, 2014).
Camden - Camden's 2015 Festival of Independence is centered in Harbor Park. Midcoast organizations will team up to offer three days of fun over the Fourth of July holiday period, from July 3rd to July 5th. Carrabassett Valley - Fireworks on July 4, 2014 at the Carrabassett Valley Airport across from Ayottes Store on Route 27 at about 9:15 p.m.
Casco - Fireworks open to the public on June 30, 2014 on a raft offshore at Point Sebago Resort after 9 p.m. (rain date July 1, 2014).
Castine - Fireworks on July 4, 2014 on floats in front of the public boat launch and Dennett's Wharf Restaurant at 9 p.m. (rain date July 6, 2014).
Damariscotta - Fireworks off Gay's Point at Water Street in Damariscotta on July 4, 2014 at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 5).
Deer Isle - Stonington - 2015 Independence Day celebration activities are on July 4th. Celebrate Independence Day on the Island! Parade, community band & Color Guard, Stonington Six road races, fish pier events, live entertainment and fireworks at dusk. Denmark - Public Fireworks on July 5, 2014 at 9 p.m. at Four Wheeler Trail off of Picket Hill Road (rain date July 6).
Dexter - Fireworks on July 3, 2014 at Dexter High School Football Field at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2014).
East Millinocket - The East Millinocket Summerfest includes fireworks on July 11, 2014 at about 9 p.m. at the Katahdin Paper Mill (rain date July 12, 2014). See also Millinocket.
Easton - Easton Field Days includes public fireworks on July 12, 2014 at around 9:30 p.m. at the field between Easton Elementary & High School on Bangor Road (rain date July 13, 2013).
Eastport - 4th of July - Billed as the largest July 4th celebration in Maine, with events scheduled from July 2, 2015 (the day after Canada Day, with its own fireworks on Deer Island Point Park in New Brunswick on July 1), continuing through July 5th. There are literally dozens of scheduled events, including the Grand Independence Parade, concerts at Overlook Park, greasy pole and water sports, antique car show, contests and games for all ages with prizes and of course Fireworks over the Bay seen from the downtown Eastport waterfront on July 4th. Arriving in the morning of July 2, 2015 will be the Pearl Mist, a luxury cruise ship.
Forks - Fireworks at the island where the Dead & Kennebec Rivers meet in Forks, Maine on July 5th, 2014 at 9:30 p.m. (rain date July 6, 2014).
Freeport - July 4, 2015 in Freeport is the kick-off day for L.L. Bean's annual Summer in the Park celebration. On the 4th there is a road race & fun run at 7:30 a.m. & 9:10 a.m., a free concert in Discovery Park by the Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks starting around 9 p.m.
Frye Island - Fireworks at the Long Beach Marina on Frye Island on July 5, 2014 at 9:30 p.m. (rain date July 6).
Grand Lake Stream - Join Grand Lake Stream for an old-fashioned, small town 4th of July Celebration, Grand Lake Stream America, featuring a Guide's dinner, a pie eating contest, as well as frog racing, a parade and live music. For info phone (207) 796-2100.
Greenville / Moosehead Lake Region - On the fourth of July, 2014, Greenville comes alive with the areas celebration of Independence Day. We have a fun day planned with games, a craft fair, and food vendors. A parade will roll along the main streets of Greenville, and Fireworks will finish off the evening. Events are at East Cove in Greenville.
Harpswell / Bailey Island - Fireworks on July 3, 2014 at about 10 p.m. at Cooks Lobster House Point, 86 Garrison Cove Road (rain date July 6, 2014). See also South Harpswell.
Houlton - The town's annual Midnight Madness event at Market Square downtown runs from 5 p.m. to midnight on July 3, 2015 with music, street sales and family activities, ending with fireworks at Riverfront Park at 9:30 p.m. The following day, July 4th, features a parade at 10 a.m. and also many events at the concurrent Houlton Fair, which has its own very large fireworks display in the evening.
Islesboro - Fireworks on July 5, 2014 at about 9 p.m. at the Grindle Point ferry dock (rain date July 6, 2014).
Jackman - Fireworks on July 4, 2014 at the field behind the Town Office at 9 p.m. (rain date July 5).
Jay - Fireworks on July 3, 2014 at Spruce Mountain Ski Area at 9 p.m. (rain date is July 5).
Kennebunk - Fireworks on July 4th, 2014 on Gooch's Beach across from the Narragansett Inn at 9 p.m. (rain date July 5).
Lewiston/Auburn Liberty Festival and Facebook - July 4, 2015. The Lewiston Auburn Liberty Festival is an annual 4th of July event held at the Great Falls Plaza in Auburn and in Veteran's Park in Lewiston with bands, entertainment and food vendors. Fireworks finale date TBA at 9:30 p.m. at West Pich Park over Looking Falls in Auburn. For more info email email@example.com.
Limestone - Fireworks at Cavendish Farms potato field of of Pond View Street in Limestone, Maine on July 4th at 9 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2014).
Limington - Fireworks at Joe Webster Road in Limington, Maine on July 4th at 9:30 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2014).
Livermore - Fireworks on July 5 at around 9:30 p.m. at 807 Boothby Road in Livermore (rain date Aug. 9, 2014).
Lubec - Fireworks in Lubec will be on July 5, 2014 in the harbor off of the Lubec boat landing at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 6, 2014).
Machias - Fireworks on July 4, 2014 from middle of river directly across from Helen's Restaurant at 9:30 p.m. (rain date Aug. 16, 2014).
Millinocket Independence Day Celebration - See the referenced link for details of the Millinocket Independence Day Celebration, with activities on both July 3 & July 4, 2014, including a fireworks display on July 4 at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 5). Naples - Public fireworks from a raft on Long Lake in Naples on July 4, 2014 at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 5). Also fireworks (listed as public) on July 4, 2014 at the Camp Mataponi dock on Sebago Lake at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2014).
Newport - Fireworks sponsored by the Sebasticook Lake Association at the Elaine Tardy landing off of Route 2 in Newport on July 5, 2014 at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 12).
Ogunquit - Fireworks on July 4, 2015 on Ogunquit's Main Beach, southwest corner of the parking lot at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 5). Preceding the fireworks a local DJ will be playing music as people gather for the event. For more info call the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce at (207) 646-2939.
Old Orchard Beach - Fireworks displays are held every Thursday from June 25 through September 3, 2015 at the Old Orchard Beach pier at about 9:45 p.m. There will also be a large fireworks display on Saturday, July 4, 2015. For more info call (207) 934-2500.
Otis - Fireworks on July 4th on Otis Pond at 9 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2014).
Oxford - Fireworks on July 3, 2014 at about 9:15 p.m. in the center of the track area at the Oxford Plains Speedway.
Phippsburg - Private fireworks on July 3, 2014 behind the tennis courts overlooking the poind at Sebasco Harbor Resort in Phippsburg (rain date July 5).
Poland Spring - Private fireworks on July 5, 2014 at the Poland Spring Golf Course at Poland Spring Resort at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2012).
Portland - July 4, 2015 (rain date is July 5). The annual 4th of July Festival in Portland, Maine is the Stars and Stripes Spectacular. The fun begins with The Scoops Ice Cream Festival from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Patriotic Pops concert starts at 7:20 p.m. with the Portland Symphony Orchestra and special guest artist Melissa Manchester. The evening culminates with dazzling pyrotechnics, as fireworks arch over Casco Bay from Portland's East End Promenade at 9:20 p.m. Food vendors will be on site. Rangeley - July 3, 2015. Rangeley Independence Day Celebration on July 3rd with events all day and fireworks at dusk. Events start at 10 a.m.
Raymond - Fireworks at the Kingsley Pines Camp docks in Raymond on July 4, 2014 (rain date 5). According to the Fire Marshall these are public fireworks, but best to call the camp at (207) 894-9030 to make sure.
Saco - Fireworks on July 3, 2014 at the Funtown/Splashtown USA rear parking lot, 774 Portland Road, at 9:30 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2014).
Sanford - Fireworks in Sanford are on July 3, 2015 at Number 1 Pond by Riverside and Emery Roads at dusk (rain date is July 5, 2015). More activities are scheduled for the 4th, including an Independence Day parade. For more info contact Sanford Parks & Recreation at (207) 324-9130.
Scarborough - Fireworks at the Scarborough Municipal Landfill, Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on July 1, 2014 at 9 p.m. (rain date July 4).
Searsport - Parade in downtown Searsport at 11 a.m. on July 4, 2015, followed by rowboat races at the Hamilton Wharf, and then an auction at the United Methodist Church in downtown Searsport. In the evening, at about 9 p.m. on July 4th, come out to Mosman Park for Independence Day fireworks (the rain date is July 5, 2015). South Harpswell - Fireworks on July 4, 2014 at 70 Whites Point Road at 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 5, 2014).
Southwest Harbor - The Southwest Harbor 2015 Fireworks Display will be shot from the Acadia Fuel Barge, which will be placed in the middle of Southwest Harbor to provide unobstructed views from Manset to the Coast Guard Base. (Rain date is July 11.) For more info call (207) 244-9264.
Thomaston July 4th or Thomaston Facebook July 4th - July 4, 2015. This is a large traditional small town Independence Day celebration with a pancake breakfast at the Masonic Hall, a craft tent, a pet show, parade, chicken barbecue, food & vendor booths, dunk tank, games for kids, bouncy houses, horseshoe tournament, musical entertainment, and a grand fireworks finale. Turner - No fireworks in 2015. There will, however, be a community parade on the morning of July 4th. For more info call the town office at (207) 225-3414.
Winslow - Many 2014 are scheduled starting with Miss 4th of July Pageant on June 28 then more events from July 2, 2014 through the July 4th parade & fireworks. (Fireworks rain date is July 5, 2014). Huge celebration of Independence Day, including "The largest parade in the State of Maine." The evening fireworks display is at Fort Halifax Park.
Winthrop - Norcross Point, Winthrop. Thousands of folks visit Winthrop each year for its annual Fourth of July fireworks display overlooking picturesque Norcross Point at the southern end of Maranacook Lake. The pyrotechnics take place at dusk (around 9 p.m.) on July 4th, 2015. For details phone (207) 377-8020.
