July Events - 4th of July in Maine


 

Not a festival, but a celebration of the birth of a nation.  Towns and villages throughout Maine come together to party, but also to remember those who sacrificed so much to preserve and protect America.

July Fourth Activities

 

Augusta - July 4, 2008.  The culmination of the Whatever Family Festival is a big bash at the Riverfront in Waterfront Park in Augusta on July 4th.  For info phone Wendy Somes at (207) 626-2352.

 

Biddeford - July 4, 2008.  The Ketchfish Brothers will be performing their unique blend of Blues and Ancient Rock 'n Roll at Mechanic's Park on Main Street at 6 p.m.

 

Boothbay Harbor - 4th of July Celebration - Old Fashioned Fourth of July Family Celebration on the Boothbay Common.  Crafts, children's games, chicken barbeque.  Live music all day.  Fireworks in the evening.  For info phone (207) 633-7692.

 

Deer Isle - Stonington 4th of July - Early in the morning of the Fourth of July are the Road Races and Fun Run in Downtown Stonington. The parade is later in the morning in Deer Isle Village.  The annual Fish and Fritter Fry starts in the late afternoon on the Stonington Fish Pier followed by fireworks over Stonington Harbor at nightfall.  For info phone Ginger Lester at (207) 348-2676.

Eastport - 4th of July - Largest July 4th celebration in Maine.  Grand Independence Parade, Fireworks over the Bay, free entertainment at Overlook Park, greasy pole and water sports, antique car show, contests and games for all ages with prizes.  Traditionally, we have a visit from a U.S. Navy ship, providing free tours.  Stay tuned to our website for updates.

Lewiston/Auburn Liberty Festival - July 4, 2008.  The Lewiston Auburn Liberty Festival is an annual 4th of July event held along the riverfront. Begins at 4PM on July 4th with bands, entertainment and food vendors. There is a lighting of the fireworks contest and a birthday party that is celebrated at the Hilton Garden Inn - tickets are $15. Moosehead Lake Region - The Moosehead Lake region comes alive celebrating Independence Day.  Enjoy a day of fun at the Junction Wharf with games, a craft fair, and food.  A parade will roll along the main streets of Greenville, and fireworks finish off the night.  Makes plans today to attend the largest fireworks display in Piscataquis County.  For information phone (207) 695-2702.

 

Old Orchard Beach - Fireworks displays are held every Thursday from June 26, 2008 through Labor Day.  Also on July 4 of course.

 

Portland - July 4, 2008.  Annual 4th of July Festival.  Bring the family, chairs and blankets, and enjoy the fireworks display at the Eastern Promenade at Munjoy Hill. Fireworks start after dusk. Food vendors on site. Please park off Munjoy Hill and walk up. Please leave pets at home.  Cancellation line is (207) 756-8130. 

 

Thomaston - July 4, 2008.  This is a large traditional small town July 4th with pancake breakfast, big parade, entertainment, pet show, horseshoe tournament, firecracker races, baking contest, chicken barbeque, music, crafts, children's activities and fireworks. 

 

Winslow - June 28 through a military concert on July 5, 2008 (with fireworks on the 4th of July).  Parade and fireworks and more.  Huge celebration of Independence Day, including "The largest parade in the State of Maine."  The evening fireworks display is at Fort Halifax Park. An additional military concert will be held on July 9, 2008.

 

Winthrop - Norcross Point, Winthrop.  Thousands of folks visit Winthrop each year for the annual Fourth of July fireworks display.  The fireworks start at dusk (around 9 p.m.) on July 4th.  The fireworks are sponsored by the Winthrop Area Chamber of Commerce.  For details phone (207) 377-8020,
