A sparkling harbor greets visitors to the Bucksport Bay Area. Long a seafaring port at the upper end of Penobscot Bay founded by the legendary Jonathan Buck in 1764. Though Bucksport is less bustling than some other coastal communities, it offers spectacular views of the famous Waldo/Hancock Bridge and historic Fort Knox, Maine's most visited historic site. The charming waterfront walk & park is a great place to picnic, relax & enjoy the views of this working harbor & marina. In East Orland just off Rt. 1 is the Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery, the oldest salmon hatchery in the nation and Great Pond Mountain where the hiking is beautiful. The Orland & Bucksport area boasts fifteen lakes and ponds, providing a myriad of recreational and nature activities.
For a "two nation vacation" visit the St. Croix Valley, a Down East Maine region on the St. Croix River joined by the US-Canada border. A new Downeast Heritage Center opens a window on life in this unique bi-nation region.
There's so much to do in Camden, Rockport,
and Lincolnville, it's hard to know where to start. So begin at
the top of Mt. Battie at the
Camden Hills State Park! Hike or drive up for a panoramic view
of the harbor, islands, and ocean. Afterwards, head into the
village to have lunch by the water and stroll along the harborside.
While you're in town don't forget our many shops and galleries where
great goodies await. Looking for a water experience, take a
windjammer cruise or climb aboard a sightseeing boat. You can even
set your course for the many lighthouses within an easy drive. In
the evening have dinner at a pub or family eatery or a special dinner at
an elegant restaurant and then enjoy a performance at the Camden or
Rockport Opera Houses. Where ever your day guides you, be sure to
plan your stay at one of our many inns, B&Bs, or hotels. Come stay
