Interpretations: Two Takes on Nature - Engine Exhibit Space

Biddeford, Maine 04005
Phone: (207) 229-3560

Jan 27 thru Feb 18, 2012. Engine presents "Interpretations: Two Takes on Nature" during the upcoming Biddeford ArtWalk on Friday, January 27 at 265 Main Street from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The show, open through February 18, will feature paintings and drawings by Gedy Moody of Biddeford Pool, and metal sculptures by Jac Ouellette of South Portland. Moody, a native of Bulgaria and part-time resident of Italy, is a graduate of the Boston Museum of Fine Art School. Often stirred by the many moods and vibrant colors of the varied landscapes and villages around her, Moody's work in "Interpretations" is inspired by the Biddeford shoreline. Ouellette, a graduate of the Maine College of Art, is a multi-media artist. Her current work encompasses metal sculptures, metal furniture, and landscapes in oil. Ouellette's large steel sculptures in "Interpretations" manage to be neither cold nor sharp-edged, but instead ripple with a bright, organic softness. Poetry Out Loud - Biddeford City Theater

Phone: (207) 282-0849

Feb 08, 2012. Southern Maine Regional Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest comes to Biddeford City Theater on February 8th. Recitation and performance are major new trends in poetry. There has been a recent resurgence of poetry as an oral art form, as seen in the slam poetry movement and the immense popularity of hip-hop music among our youth. Poetry Out Loud builds on this momentum by inviting the dynamic aspects of slam poetry, spoken word, and theater into the English class. The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have formed a partnership with state arts agencies to support the expansion of Poetry Out Loud, which encourages the nation’s youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance. This exciting program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence and learn about their literary heritage. Registration is open to all public, private, parochial and home school high schools in Maine. Event #8054   Map + Directions   |   Report Update
