Urinetown - Boothbay Playhouse

275 Wiscasset Road
Boothbay, Maine 04537
Phone: (207) 633-3379

Jun 28 thru Jul 14, 2012. If ever a show exemplified the saying, "never judge a book by it's title," Urinetown is that show. Nominated for 10 Tony Awards and winner of 3, it is a witty, uproariously funny, irreverent, and thoroughly entertaining toe-tapper that takes jabs at the legal system, capitalism, corrupt corporation, waste in terms of the environment and our sense of entitlement (amongst other things). Urinetown takes place in a world where a drought has caused water to be rationed to the point that there is a ban on private toilets and everyone must pay for the "privilege to pee." Love sparks between a worker at one of the filthiest low-income amenities and the wealthy daughter of the man who runs the Urine Good Company, which controls the fee-based facilities. A revolution is started, and a battle ensues between those arguing for regulated conservation of the available resources and those fighting for personal freedoms. Of course, this tale is told with generous portions of wit and wonderfully engaging songs. Shows June 28, 29, 30, July 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13 and 14. All shows at 8 p.m. except July 7 matinee at 2 p.m. Rehearsals begin in May. For tickets phone the box office at (207) 633-3379 or before June phone Susan at (207) 633-6309. Once Upon at Mattress - Boothbay Playhouse

275 Wiscasset Road
Boothbay, Maine 04537
Phone: (207) 633-3379

Aug 01 thru Aug 18, 2012. If you thought you knew the story of 'The Princess and The Pea,' you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that Lady Larken's love for Sir Harry provided a rather compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste? Or that, in fact, it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Shows: August 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17 and 18. All shows at 8 p.m. except August 11 matinee at 2 p.m. Rehearsals will begin in July. For tickets phone the box office at (207) 633-3379 or before June phone Susan at (207) 633-6309. Event #8084   Map + Directions   |   Report Update
