As a solo artist and as the lead singer of The Babys and Bad English, John Waite was a fixture of album-oriented rock radio stations during the 70s and 80s. He had a talent for power ballads and driving arena rock, occasionally touching on new wave styled power pop as well. Several of Waite's songs, including "Missing You," "The Babys," "Isn't It Time," and Bad English's "When I See You Smile" became radio staples. Performance at 8 p.m. Event #7902 Map + Directions

Though his iconic guise of white fedora, jacket and sunglasses has been thoroughly satirized, it's easy to overlook what a genuinely gifted artist he remains - a role he inevitably tries to downplay. At the core of his initial calling was the desire to simply honor songs from the past - a waltz with bygone days that established him as sole curator of the museum of 20th century music. Over the course of his 30+ year, 15+ album career, the bard has continued his love affair with tunes from the turn-of-the-century (as in the second-to-last century), flapper-era radio ditties, Depression-spawned ragtime and World War II folk-jazz. Tret Fure continues to turn out marvelous albums, her latest being "True Compass" (Tomboy Girl). Who else could have written a love song such as "Look What Love Has Given Me"? It'' a song that is at once personal and universal in its affectionate expression of happiness. Fure keeps it coming in the jazzy flourishes of the title track, the acoustic twang of "Six Beers," the heartache of "32 Years," the political voice of "Try" and the rhythmic "Leap of Faith." For over 30 years, Johnny Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signing to Columbia records in 1969, Johnny immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues a prime combination for the legions of fans just discovering the blues via the likes of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Constantly shifting between simple country blues in the vein of Robert Johnson, to all-out electric slide guitar blues-rock, - Johnny has always been one of the most respected singers and guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues-rock and American Southern rock (a la the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd). Note: This event, originally scheduled Nov. 6, 2011, was postponed until April 12, 2012. Harmonies - if you had to describe the music of Girlyman in one word, this would be it. The story doesn't end there, of course: the band blends modern acoustic, americana, and folk-rock into a musical recipe The Village Voice has called "really good, really unexpected, and really different." The wide range of instruments - acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, djembe, electric baritone guitar - reflects an eclectic sound, and the band members switch off lead vocals and songwriting duties. "From her albums you can tell that she is a gifted songwriter with a beautiful voice. From other people's comments about her you can learn that she is a natural story teller with a fantastic sense of humor. But until you see her in person, you never really believe what you've been told about her. Besides, almost half of the songs she does during her shows haven't been recorded! Cheryl's songs are often emotional portraits of people, leaving you with the impression that you know the characters. You find yourself being dragged into the song rather than standing outside and observing. Other songs by Cheryl are hilarious situation comedies." Concert at 8 p.m. Event #7524 Map + Directions

Singer-songwriter Dan Hicks is truly an American original. Since the early 1960s, Hicks has deftly blended elements of Swing, Jazz, Folk and Country music to create the appealing sound he sometimes calls "Folk Jazz". The lyrics of his songs range from the simply sublime to the sublimely ridiculous, all presented with his uniquely skewed and inscrutable touch. Dan's irresistible sense of rhythm, hip lyrical styling, laid-back vocalizing, and infamous on-stage wit will make most who listen fans for life. He's a snappy dresser, too. J. Geils needs no introduction around these parts. Fresh from his reunion with the full J. Geils Band in August along with Aerosmith at Fenway Park, producer, writer, and sports car restoration expert J. Geils is a rockin' master of the blues. Known for several huge classic hits and a soulful approach to the blues, J has now been nominated for the Rock Hall of Fame. Team him up with Jeff Pitchell & Texas Flood and you have a show not to be missed. Jeff has been blistering the paint off the walls of most clubs in the New England area for some years now and he is one of the hottest guitar slingers on the circuit, drawing comparisons to Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan. His CD, Heavy Hitter, reached #7 on the Billboard Charts. Along with Texas Flood they tear up a rich mix of R & B, Rock, Soul and funky Texas Blues. Also on the bill at the Bull is very special guest Gerry Beaudoin, who will add his own sassy guitar to the mix for a rare night of dance and frenzy. Together they will be playing some of the J. Geils Band hits as well as some of Jeff's songs and, of course, blues, blues, blues. Concert at 8 p.m. Event #7911 Map + Directions

Who are the great songwriters in America today? Not the most popular. Not the richest. Simply the greats. Ask any student of the form, and Janis Ian will be counted among them. The writer of "Jesse," a song recorded by so many others that few remember Ian wrote it; "Stars," possibly the best song ever written about the life of a performer, and the seminal "At Seventeen," a song that brought her five Grammy nominations in 1975. Ian is a formidable talent, a force of nature. Ella Fitzgerald called her "the best young singer in America." Chet Atkins said "Singer? You ought to hear that girl play guitar; she gives me a run for my money!" Reviewers have called her live performances "overwhelming to the spirit and soul," and "drenched with such passion, the audience feels they've been swept up in a hurricane."
