MANP SkillBuilder: Attracting and Retaining Boomers: Why Maine Employers Should Care. The current "longevity revolution" has many people enjoying 30 more years of life than the previous generation. This is good news for employers who are anticipating the severe labor shortage forecast for the future. Someone turns 50 in the U.S. every 7 seconds and economists believe older Americans are key to averting the expected labor crisis. Employers and human resource professionals need to understand and address the factors that will keep this significant demographic engaged in the workforce and retained in the talent pool. Event is from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Maine Association of Non-Profits building. Event #9216 Map + Directions

Join staff from MANP and the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices for this half-day training on what types of election season activities are legal and appropriate and how to report them. MANP SkillBuilder: Finding and Telling our Stories: Bringing our Mission and Vision to Life. It's through well-crafted compelling stories- not formal reports- that people attach themselves to the work of non-profits, decide to get involved, and make financial contributions. In this Skillbuilder we'll practice identifying those stories that are compelling, illustrative, and can be told in few words. As we share these stories with each other, we'll learn how to sharpen our delivery, and identify both the issue and opportunity your non-profit addresses and the energizing hope or vision you offer the community. MANP SkillBuilder: Fiscal Oversight and Financial Risk: A Practical Approach. Most nonprofit leaders recognize that managing finance-related risks is an important responsibility. And many are aware of the big risks they face, including loss of a major funding source, penalties for non-compliance with regulatory requirements and the like. What's lacking in many nonprofit board rooms and executive offices is confidence about whether the organization has its bases "covered." This workshop outlines an approach to identifying key finance-related risks and practical steps to fill the gaps. MANP SkillBuilder: Choosing and Framing Data to Improve Understanding of Social Problems. To experts, data is often the primary tool in the toolbox of communications for social change. The questions we often fail to ask are whether the data we choose supports the story we're trying to tell, and whether our data will mean to lay publics and policymakers what the data clearly mean to us. Find out more about how to enterpret and use data effectively at this half-day SkillBuilder. Event is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Portland Make-A-Wish Offices. Event #9229 Map + Directions

MANP SkillBuilder: Executive Transitions. Executive transitions can be overwhelming for an organization. Increasingly, the role of leadership is more dependent on knowing how to lead change and embrace transition. What now? Do you post ads everywhere? Find someone identical? Opposite? How do you prepare yourself? And what has leadership come to mean in your nonprofit? As a generation of Baby Boomer EDs approaches retirement, their organizations face self-reflection and rediscovery. Event is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the MANP Office in Portland.
