May 10 thru Jun 10, 2012.
The Maine Art Gallery has begun it's new season with an exhibit which includes new members and old in just the right proportions. John Butke of Boothbay is back with ocean views in oil and watercolor that draw you in so surely that before you know it you'll feel that "I've been sitting on the beach for an hour" sense of calm. Many of his best are offered unframed at very attractive prices. Splendid woven gold jewelry is a marvel to see from new member Linda Paine of Chamberlain. Pastel artist Patricia Binette's delicious "Peppers" shows that she is equally expert in pastels as in oils. Joan Siem of Camden, who leans towards thought-provoking surrealism, is showing that as well as what can only be described as a Medieval portrait painted with today's emotion. In skillful color use it is the best of Medieval realism but so subtly done that the viewer finds new symbols of meaning hidden for further contemplation. Also, Brandon Lutterman of Wiscasset is showing two of the most amazing ceramic equestrian vases. This exhibit covers so much ground that it would be best to see it on a leisurely day when it can all be enjoyed. Event #9276 Map + Directions
