George Bellows - Portland Museum of Art

Apr 10 thru Jun 01, 2008. Portland. The great American realist artist George Bellows (1882-1925) has long been respected for his ability to capture the spirit and character of American life in the early 20th century. His well-known images convey the liveliness present in many aspects of American society, from the boxing ring to the seashore. This exhibition features more than 60 prints and drawings from the Boston Public Library, the most important collection of Bellows's graphic art in the United States. Chaos at Aarhus Gallery

May 01 thru May 25, 2008. Belfast. Please join Aarhus Gallery for an opening reception on Friday, May 2nd from 5 to 8 p.m. for its Chaos Exhibit. Artist Sam Gelber says of his 27 foot painting "Chaos and War," that "it is about violence, patriotism, confrontation, antagonism, blood and policits." Ten other artists join Sam at Aarhus to grab hold of this worldly word and come up with some chaos of their own: Edward Anthonis, Kenny Cole, Norman Tinker, Seth Whited as well as Aarhus artists Kevin Johnson, Mark Kelly, Annadeene Konesni, Richard Mann, Wesley Reddick and Willy Reddick. Diane Noble Art Show - Heart of Biddeford

May 08 thru May 29, 2008. Biddeford. An exhibit of 60 recent paintings by artist, Diane Noble, are on display at the office of Heart of Biddeford, 205 Main St. for the month of May. The 'Opening reception' is Thursday, May 8 and the 'Closing' will be the Biddeford Art Walk on Thursday, May 29. The acrylic paintings are of coastal landscape themes, lighthouses, old VW bugs, vans and antique Nash and Morris Minor's, dogs, barns, old sheds, docks and rowboats. Author Shannon Risk - Bangor Public Library

This event starts at 2 p.m. Ms. Risk's book is about three young women who run an internet dating agency in Bangor. An atypical romance novel as one of the characters struggles with a disability. Contemporary Collaborations - Portland Museum of Art

May 24 thru Jul 31, 2008. Portland. The Portland Museum of Art presents an exhibit on printmaking. Printmaking has enjoyed a renaissance in the United States, thanks, in large measure, to several important print workshops where artists and printers have an opportunity to experiment together. The creative results of such partnerships are on view in the exhibition Contemporary Collaborations: Artist and Master Printer, at the Portland Museum of Art. This exhibition features 35 prints by 30 contemporary artists with Maine connections who have created significant prints in concert with technical specialists at professional fine art print presses. Art Auction

May 31, 2008. Farmington. The Fairbanks School Neighborhood Association (FSNA) is sponsoring its second annual Fine Arts Auction at 6 p.m. in the Bass Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Items up for bid include works from many well-known local artisans. There will be paintings in a variety of mediums and subject matters, oils, watercolors, and prints, as well as pottery, jewelry, stained glass, blown glass, furniture and more. Tickets for the gals event are $15 per person, $25 per couple, or a table of 8 for $90, and can be purchased at Mickey's Hallmark or the Calico Patch in downtown Farmington.
