OOB Olympic and Half Rev Triathlon

Aug 26, 2012. Rev3in partnership with OOB365, the local merchants's association, will launch a new Olympic and Half Rev race in Old Orchard Beach, Maine on August 26, 2012. Pro and age group athletes are invited to compete in both distances for cash prizes. The Olympic distance comprises a .93 mile swim, 24.86 mile bike and 6.2 mile run and the Half Rev race is a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run. Both swim legs will take place in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The bike course starts out flat and fast before taking riders into a series of rolling hills, giving them the chance to experience the beauty of the surrounding Maine farmland and countryside. Tall pine trees provide shade over much of the course, which winds through Saco, Dayton, Lyman, Waterboro, Hollis, and Old Orchard Beach. The run course is an out-and-back, giving athletes the chance to finish out the race on a flat and fast course that includes sweeping views of the Scarborough Marsh and over a portion of the storied Eastern Trail. In it's twenty first year, the Tour de la Vallee promises to be a challenge for all riders. The route takes you from Fort Kent to Keegan on Route 1, back to Grand Isle and the up in the back settlements and around Long Lake to Sinclair, and Route 161 to Fort Kent. You will see more potato country and quaint French villages. The terrain offers a variety of long flat stretches, small inclines, and one challenging hill as you turn off in Grand Isle and head for the lake. Get panoramic views of the St. John River and Long Lake as you ride along their shores. Short distance riders can do round trip distances on Route 1 where the terrain is mostly flat.
