2012 Migratory Duck Stamp Contest

Sep 28 thru Mar 30, 2012. Entries for the 2012 Maine "duck stamp" contest must display one or more live waterfowl of the chosen species (below) prominently in the design. If background detail is included in the design it must be accurate and representative of the state of Maine. Designs will be judged on originality, artistic composition, anatomical accuracy and suitability for reproduction as a stamp. Subjects may include one or more of the following: Greater or Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Common Goldeneye, Barrow's Goldeneye, or Buffledhead. Entries for the 2012 Maine Migratory Waterfowl Stamp Contest will be accepted from 9 a.m. March 1 through 4 p.m., March 30, 2012. All entries must be delivered to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife's Augusta office or be received by the Department through the mail (or by U.P.S., FedEx, etc) before 4 p.m., March 30, 2012. Judging will take place before the annual Maine Sportsman's Show at the Augusta Civic Center and all designs will be displayed throughout the entire Show. Annual Winter Solstice Birdwalk - Cancelled in 2011

Dec 21, 2010. Cancelled in 2011. Plans to return in 2012.. The Moosehead Area Birding Club will hold their Annual Winter Solstice Bird Walk. Meet at Auntie M's at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast, and then usually travel to Shirley Bog for the walk or sometimes Lily Bay. Depending on conditions this may be a snowshoe event.
