"Black Holes" explores the history, physics, and mystery of black holes. Witness the bending of light, the skewing of perception, and the dizzying descent into a black hole. This show incorporates some of the most visually stunning three-dimensional effects ever created for the OmniDome planetarium system. Ages 9 to adult (grade 4 & up). At the casting calls, Maine babies under the age of one will receive a free professional photograph and may have their picture appear in future Harold Alfond College Challenge promotional materials. May 21, 2012. The Portland Public Library is hosting a Family Place Workshop for children 6 months to 3 years old and their parents/caregivers. Each workshop stresses the importance of play to a child's development. Play helps stimulate motor skills as well as brain development; therefore, as parent and child engage in meaningful and fun play with age appropriate toys the benefits are enormous. At each workshop parents will be introduced to some of the many local resources available to help them in the rewarding but challenging task of parenting a toddler. Among the topics covered will be Child Development; Nutrition; Speech/Hearing; Music/Movement; and Literacy. The sessions will be held every Monday from April 23 through May 21 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. There is no charge, but sign-up and participation for all sessions are required. Registration forms are available at the Children's Room desk at the Main Library' registration must be done in person. Only registered families will be able to attend.
