Whatever Family Festival is a two-week-long Free Family Fun Festival, from mid-June through July Fourth, featuring the Kids Day in Capitol Park festivities with some 60 to 80 free events and activities. Whatever started in 1978 with a crazy Kennebec River craft race from Augusta to Gardiner to celebrate the recovery of the river and the vibrant communities surrounding it. In the 1990's we converted it to a "greener and cleaner" (and safer) celebration with emphasis on free activities and entertainment for kids. Many of the thousands and thousands of kids who attend Whatever's Kids Day are kids who will never get to see Disney World. Whatever is a special gift to the community by the businesses and organizations of the chamber. Gardiner, Augusta, Winthrop and surrounding communities come together during the Whatever Family Festival with 150 different events culminating in Kids Day in Capitol Park.
