This festival, founded by the Kiwanis Club of Dover-Foxcroft and the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce, is a partnership between businesses and community organizations dedicated to providing an event in the Piscataquis Region, rich in traditional values, and full of opportunities to share our heritage. May 07, 2016. The Annual Fiddlehead Festival and Local Foods Day features numerous local farmers, vendors of local food based lunches, book sellers, and informational tables. Children, college students, and adults can hear local bands including the popular Franklin County Fiddlers, and admired the talents of local belly dancers! There are talks on bread-making, raising dairy goats, constructing hoop tunnels, fearless pressure canning, and the safe harvesting and handling of fiddleheads, among others. Children enjoyed well-supervised games and crafts, revel in the opportunity for close contact with baby farm animals, and climbed on antique tractors. May 30, 2016. American Legion Post 29 will conduct the 2016 Memorial Day parade at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30. The parade will line up at 9:30 a.m. on Summer Street in front of Dave's World. The parade will proceed to the parking lot behind the Civil War monument across West Main Street from the Shell station. After a ceremony, the parade will go to the bridge for another ceremony and then move up East Main Street to the courthouse parking lot for the conclusion of the procession. All veterans are asked to participate in the parade if possible, with riding accommodations available if needed. Businesses and merchants are asked to please display American flags, buntings or other patriotic items for Memorial Day. May 30, 2016. The Dexter Memorial Day parade will be on Monday, May 30, hosted by the Poulliot-Seavey American Legion Post and the Shirley B. Carter VFW Post with units assembling in the municipal parking lot behind Bangor Savings Bank. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and will go up Main Street, then to Church Street and Dam Street at Veterans Memorial Park. Parade units will include a color guard from the Tri-County Tech Center Criminal Justice program, the Dexter Regional High School band and local Boy and Girl Scouts. Following the services, the parade will re-assemble on Dam and Grove streets and march back to the starting point at the municipal parking lot. May 30, 2016. Due to high probability of rain on Monday morning, the Biddeford Saco Memorial Day Parade is cancelled. However, a special indoor ceremony will be held to honor the military service and sacrifice of all of our men and women in uniform, their families at home, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country at a special indoor ceremony at the J. Richard Martin Community Center, 189 Alfred Street in Biddeford. The traditional ceremony will feature guest-speaker Michael Merrill of Volunteers of America, as well as performances by the Saco Jetts, Biddeford Middle School Band/Drum Cadence, and Steppin' Out Dance Center. Parking is available in lots and side streets surrounding the Community Center. Enter through the back door on Prospect Street. As always the parade will be from State Street, to School Street to Main Street with a brief ceremony on the bridge that will stop traffic for approximately 10 minutes. May 30, 2016. The Monmouth American Legion Post 204 will host a Memorial parade and ceremony Monday, May 30. The North Monmouth Ceremony will commence at 9 a.m. at the Veteran's Monument. Parade participants will convene at Cumston Hall in Monmouth immediately following the ceremony proceeding at 10:30 a.m. down Main Street to the Veterans' monument for services, which will include songs by local artists, a memorial rifle salute, and a brief message from Past Commander of Post 204 and U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer (retired) Rich Howard. Chairs will be provided at the monument for veterans who are unable to march in the parade. All active, National Guard, Reserve Military personnel and Veterans as well as Legionnaires and Members of other Veteran's fraternal organizations from the Monmouth area are invited to participate in the parade in uniform. May 30, 2016. The Bangor High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps will host the Greater Bangor Area 2016 Memorial Day Parade at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, May 30, beginning on Exchange Street. The parade will proceed north on Exchange, turn left on Hammond Street, through through the traffic circle and west onto Main Street, for a route of approximately three quarters of a mile. A brief ceremony will be held immediately after the parade at Davenport Park. Note that Veterans marching at the front of the parade will be coordinated through Cole Land Transportation Museum, and not through Bangor JROTC.
