Winterfest 2012 will provide fun activities for families, build community spirit, and raise money for the Penquis Keep Kids Warm Fund, which provides emergency heating assistance to low-income households. Events include Friday night sliding/skating party at around 6 p.m. and then fireworks down by the river. On Saturday the Kiwanis breakfast at the Rec Center auditorium at 8 a.m. followed by a small festival, and then a chili cook-off at Muddy Rudder from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. These events are subject to change so please call Parks & Rec in advance to confirm. The event takes place between February 24th and February 25th. The Winter Carnival kicks off Friday, February 24th with sledding down Old Orchard Street from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. along with music. On Saturday the action continues downtown from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with sledding down Old Orchard Street, kids games, music, sled time-trials, snow tube racing & other crazy winter fun. You do not want to miss the Human Dog Sled Race! Put a team together and register to compete. There will be a happy hour pub crawl on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. It is a walking pub tour that starts at The Bell Buoy. Places will be offering a discount on beverages with your Winter Carnival button.
