Jun 07, 2009. The Annual Sandy River Festival in the town of Strong offers lots of outdoor fun. The day kicks off at 8 a.m. at the American Legion Field near the Sandy River bridge. Log rolling, a canoe relay and inner tube race, paddling experts, fly fishing instruction, and Ranger Rick's canoe, kayak, and water safety clinics will provide family entertainment all day. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and beverages will be available. The nine-mile river voyage from the Strong to the Fairbanks bridge on Route 4 is an idyllic paddle, even for the novice. Bring a lifejacket, sunscreen, bug spray, and a change of clothes.
