Gardiner Ride into Summer

Gardiner, Maine 04345
Phone: (207) 582-3100

May 25, 2012. Gardiner's Ride Into Summer (Formerly Hawgs, Pies, and Fireworks) is a wicked tasty way to kick-off the summer season in Maine. It includes a motorcycle and bicycle parade, peoples' choice pizza contest of local traditional and non-traditional pizzas, live music, and Maine's largest fireworks display. This family friendly event begins with a motorcycle rally from Mike's Water Street Grill, around Gardiner, to Waterfront Park. Shortly thereafter, children and adults will be invited to decorate their bicycles for a parade of their own. Waterfront Park will be reserved for motorcycle and bicycle parking only. Some of Downtown Gardiner's great restaurants will again be vying for the coveted title of Gardiner's Best Pizza. The format for this competition is a "walkabout." Registrants will be able to purchase a ballot at a central location, and at participating merchants. The entry fee for the competition will be $8. Merchants will punch the ballot once the participant receives a pizza sample. Ballots will include a map of Downtown Gardiner showing location of participating restaurants. Ballots will only be valid if all restaurants have been sampled. Ballots will be accepted at a table located at the entrance to Waterfront Park. Proceeds from ballot sales will be split 50/50 with the participating restaurants. Spaces in Waterfront Park will be licensed to other food and novelty vendors, and the National Guard will again participate with their inflatable obstacle course. New in 2012, there will be live music set up on the boardwalk to entertain crowds as they gather for Maine's Largest Fireworks display at dusk, brought to you by Pyro City.
