Since those humble beginnings, Fryeburg Fair has grown to become Maine's largest agricultural fair complete with six days of harness racing, a farm museum second to none, the world's largest steer and oxen show and a reputation known throughout North America. Oct 01, 2011. On October 1st, 2011, the streets of Historic Gardiner will yet again be transformed as Gardiner Main Street produces Gardiner's own version of a traditional Oktoberfest celebration. The 2nd annual event features a trifecta of delicious Maine craft beers, mouthwatering Maine farm-to-table pork, and live music from a collection of popular Maine bands. The festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. A number of popular restaurants and street vendors from across the state will be teaming up to serve an array of interesting pork-driven dishes. In addition to beer, pork, and music, there will be a number of ongoing activities, including a rubber chicken fling, dunk tank, frozen t-shirt contest, "Retail Round Robin," and stick pony races to promote mingling and merriment throughout the quaint setting of Downtown Gardiner, Maine. This is a great opportunity to take in some of the best that Maine culture has to offer. The beer tent will provide an opportunity for novice and experienced local beer enthusiasts to sample some of Maine's best brews. Fall in love with one of the many styles of beer offered from 12 of Maine's best microbreweries. Admission includes all-day entertainment and three 5 oz. taster vouchers. This year, offerings will be presented from: Allagash, Andrews, Atlantic, Bar Harbor, Baxter, Geary's, Gritty McDuff, Marshall Wharf, Peak, Sebago, Sheepscot Valley, and Shipyard. Oct 22, 2011. The Kennebunk Festival Committee announces the Second Annual Harvest Fest on Main Street to promote local business and provide downtown entertainment for families in Kennebunk. The event will be held on Saturday, October 22, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. This year's Festival will also include a celebration of the completion of the Mousam River Bridge as well as an Apples and Arts day sponsored by the Kennebunk Farmer's Market. Events include a Pancake Breakfast at Duffy's Restaurant, a Costume Parade, Hay Rides, Pumpkin Decorating, Concerts on the Bridge, Fireman's Muster and more. Duffy's 5K Run/Walk and Pancake Breakfast each start at 8 am; proceeds from these events will be donated to the Festival Committee to help offset costs for Old Home Week in July 2012. All ages are invited to join the Costume Parade originating at Dane Street and marching down Main St concluding at Water Street.
