A 5K road race will kick off the festival which features a local food picnic, music by Mid-coast Maine's own steel drum band, Steelin' Thunder, boat building, a vegetable contest, a critter corner and touch tank for kids, and farmers, artisans, and conservation groups from throughout the Medomak River watershed. There's something fun for the whole family. River Festival will be held Saturday September 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Waldoboro Village parking lot behind Waltz's Pharmacy. The 5k race will begin at 8 a.m. with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. Admission to the festival is free. Favorite events from the past and new attractions are all part of a great day's schedule. Celebrate Bowdoinham starts Friday at 7 p.m. with a Concert at the gazebo by Justin Crouse and Friends. Saturday starts off with the Chicken Run (5K Road Race) beginning at the Community School. Then at 10 a.m. the Celebrate Bowdoinham Parade kicks off at the Fire Station, a long procession of floats, personalities, organizations, horseback riders, fire trucks, the ever popular Kora cars, the Ziggurat Theater Ensemble, Veterans, Drum and Bugle Corps. The parade travels from Post Road to Main Street, then down Main Street to River Road and up Ridge Road. After the Parade, the activities start at the waterfront-rides, exhibits, contests and great food and music- something for everyone!! A climbing wall/bungee jumping unit and an inflatable universe will be major attractions all day. The Bowdoinham Public Library's annual Book Sale also is happening. Day long music, poetry contest, touch tank, shucking contest, educational exhibits, boat rides to oyster beds.
