The Franco Center will produce another unique, festive and must-experience event with its offering of Mardi Gras in L/A a the Franco Center's Heritage Hall. In the tradition of New Orleans, Mardi Gras audiences will be treated to Cajun cuisine, spirits, and music. Chef Edmond, "Directeur des Andouilles et des Cornichons" at the Franco Center, has an amazing meal planned of traditional New Orleans cuisine, including Crab Gumbo, Jumbalaya, New Orleans Ratatouille, Andouilles with Onions and Peppers, Truffled Bourbon Mashed Sweet Potatoes, and the crowning dish, a King and Queen Cake. There will be ample amounts of classic New Orleans libations, like the legendary Hurricane, to help you forget the impending fast. Of course, no Mardi Gras party is complete without some foot stomping, street shaking, soul stirring music. To help us get in the proper mood for celebrating, w've got local favorites the Blues Buzzards. This group, led by veteran guitar man Earl Bigelow, is dipped in the blues, has heaps of horns, and knows how to fatten up a Tuesday, or Saturday, as the case may be. Tickets $20. Event at 6 p.m.

Feb 19 - Fort Kent - Fiddlers' Jamboree - UMFK Fox Auditorium

The University of Maine at Fort Kent is preparing for the area's largest jam session and house party for music lovers at its annual Fiddlers' Jamboree, which will be held on Sunday, February 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. in UMFK's Fox Auditorium. The doors will open to the public at 12:30 p.m. The event is open to the public. A suggested donation of $5 for adults and ages 12 and under may attend free. The donation will be greatly appreciated to offset the cost of the event. The jamboree brings together talented musicians for an afternoon of impromptu performances. Rising stars, as well as seasoned veterans take their turn. The event is an opportunity for people to strut their stuff whether they play an instrument, sing, or dance. Last year's event drew more than 50 entertainers from Aroostook County, southern Maine, the St. John Valley, and western New Brunswick. You will be amazed by the talent that lives amongst us. The jamboree is very successful and attendance continues to grow with peoples' feet stomping and cameras rolling. UMFK continues to preserve and foster an appreciation of the Acadian and Franco-American heritage and culture by hosting annual events, such as the Fiddlers' Jamboree.
