Film: Rainbow Quest - One Longfellow Square
181 State Street
Portland,
Maine
04101
Phone: (207) 761-1757
Apr 02, 2012. OLS Revisits our Roots with Music Movie Mondays! From the blues and folk revivals of the early 60s, to the rock festivals of the late 60's, One Longfellow Square has gathered some of the most remarkable performances ever filmed! With our Music Movie Mondays series, we will present films and programs that feature some of the finest musicians and moments of the decade. Please join us as we happily and joyfully bring these films to the Square! On April 2 we continue the series with Rainbow Quest. In the mid-sixties, Pete Seeger had a tv show on a New Jersey UHF station. Each one hour episode had Pete talking with, listening to, and playing along with a couple of guests he had invited on. Tonight, we'll watch 2 episodes, one starring Doc Watson, and the other featuring the Stanley Brothers. Other guests include Cousin Emmy and old-time fiddler Fred Price. Doc Watson, of course, is one of the all-time great guitar flat pickers and the Stanley Brothers were one of the premier bluegrass bands. This is one of only 3 known performances of the Stanley Brothers that are available! Ralph Stanley was at One Longfellow Square last year so if you missed him in 2011, here’s your chance to see him in 1965! ($7 or ($25 series pass) - phone orders only.) Screening at 7 p.m. Event #8157 Map + Directions | Report Update

Mastodon, Opeth & Ghost - State Theatre
609 Congress Street
Portland,
Maine
04101
Phone: (207) 956-6000
Apr 04, 2012. Atlanta-based Mastodon formulated their own brand of highly-skilled hard rock over a decade ago when others were rehashing 80s metal, and went on to mastermind a string of complex concept albums while much of the music world was centered on making digestible singles. Opeth has spent over two decades steadily amassing a body of work that is at once possessed of a fervent and unrelenting devotion to aesthetic progression (and perfection) while simultaneously scaling the summits of power, mysticism and might aspired to by the group's hard rock forefathers in Sabbath, Purple and Zeppelin. Ghost performs Black Metal at it's most original and deceiving. Doors open 6:30 p.m., concert 7:30 p.m. Event #8173 Map + Directions | Report Update

Jonny Winter - Jonathan's Ogunquit
92 Bourne Lane
Ogunquit,
Maine
03907
Phone: (207) 646-4777
Apr 06, 2012. For over 30 years, Johnny Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signing to Columbia records in 1969, Johnny immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues a prime combination for the legions of fans just discovering the blues via the likes of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Constantly shifting between simple country blues in the vein of Robert Johnson, to all-out electric slide guitar blues-rock, - Johnny has always been one of the most respected singers and guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues-rock and American Southern rock (a la the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd). Heather Masse and Jed Wilson - Stone Mountain Arts Center

Brownfield,
Maine

Phone: (866) 227-6523
Apr 06, 2012. Heather Masse is the local gal who hit the big time as one of the vocalists with the Wailin Jennys and now a regular guest on Prairie Home Companion. She is one busy gal, but when she has time in betweeen those projects, she perfroms with pianist Jed Wilson. You may have heard them both recently from NYC's Town Hall with A Prairie Home Companion. This dynamic duo met at New England Conservatory of Music studying jazz performance. Their live show mixes a range of music from original, folk, jazz, blues, and country in their distinct, imaginative duo style. And for my money a ticket to hear Heather just sing with simply a grand piano is just about as good as it gets. A beautiful singer in a room with beautiful acoustics, and an outstanding sidekick with Jed Wilson on piano. Doors open 6 p.m., concert at 8 p.m. Event #7926 Map + Directions | Report Update

Phone: (207) 646-4777
Apr 12, 2012. Note: This event, originally scheduled Nov. 6, 2011, was postponed until April 12, 2012. Harmonies - if you had to describe the music of Girlyman in one word, this would be it. The story doesn't end there, of course: the band blends modern acoustic, americana, and folk-rock into a musical recipe The Village Voice has called "really good, really unexpected, and really different." The wide range of instruments - acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, djembe, electric baritone guitar - reflects an eclectic sound, and the band members switch off lead vocals and songwriting duties. Cheryl Wheeler - Jonathan's Ogunquit
92 Bourne Lane
Ogunquit,
Maine
03907
Phone: (207) 646-4777
Apr 13, 2012. "From her albums you can tell that she is a gifted songwriter with a beautiful voice. From other people's comments about her you can learn that she is a natural story teller with a fantastic sense of humor. But until you see her in person, you never really believe what you've been told about her. Besides, almost half of the songs she does during her shows haven't been recorded! Cheryl's songs are often emotional portraits of people, leaving you with the impression that you know the characters. You find yourself being dragged into the song rather than standing outside and observing. Other songs by Cheryl are hilarious situation comedies."
