Apr 11, 2010. Gritty, bluesy and full of fire, Todd Wolfe, former guitarist for Sheryl Crow, favors heavy riffs, wicked phrasing, dirty slide and syrupy tones. There's plenty of distorted guitar on strong originals and classic covers. The Wolfe Band was born during the downtime from Sheryl Crow tours. They are an edgy, adventurous, boundary pushing quartet who mix original material with Howlin' Wolf and Robert Johnson chestnuts. A concert highlighting thousands of years of artistic accomplishments, will be presented by the early music trio Calderwood Consort on Sunday, April 18 at 4 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 9 Summer Street, Augusta. The Spring concert "Sumer is Icumen In," features a variety of early church music and secular songs. Calderwood consort is a group of three musicians who perform medieval and Renaissance music on period instruments. Dressed in medieval costume, they give a concert that is festive, entertaining and informative, with historical notes on the instruments and items. In addition to examples of the well-known recorder, percussion and viol families, the ensemble plays unusual instruments such as rauschpfeife, sackbut, gemshorn, psaltery, cornamuse and glockenspiel.
