Feb 16, 2012. Goitse (pronounced gwi-cha) is a five member Irish Trad band which specialises in their unique rythmic arrangements of well known tunes and own compositions. Goitse is a Donegal Irish word meaning 'come here.' The distinctive quality of their sound lies in the arrangement of well-known traditional tunes interspersed with their own compositions, which make each set entertaining and unique. The band adds their own distinctive contribution to their cultural inheritance with ease and style. Even with hints of continental playing and modern rhythms there remains the overwhelming presence of Irishness. In the tradition of New Orleans, Mardi Gras audiences will be treated to Cajun cuisine, spirits, and music. Chef Edmond, "Directeur des Andouilles et des Cornichons" at the Franco Center, has an amazing meal planned of traditional New Orleans cuisine, including Crab Gumbo, Jumbalaya, New Orleans Ratatouille, Andouilles with Onions and Peppers, Truffled Bourbon Mashed Sweet Potatoes, and the crowning dish, a King & Queen Cake. The University of Maine at Fort Kent is preparing for the area's largest jam session and house party for music lovers at its annual Fiddlers' Jamboree, which will be held on Sunday, February 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. in UMFK's Fox Auditorium. The doors will open to the public at 12:30 p.m. The event is open to the public. A suggested donation of $5 for adults and ages 12 and under may attend free. The donation will be greatly appreciated to offset the cost of the event. The jamboree brings together talented musicians for an afternoon of impromptu performances. Rising stars, as well as seasoned veterans take their turn. The event is an opportunity for people to strut their stuff whether they play an instrument, sing, or dance. Last year's event drew more than 50 entertainers from Aroostook County, southern Maine, the St. John Valley, and western New Brunswick. You will be amazed by the talent that lives amongst us. The jamboree is very successful and attendance continues to grow with peoples' feet stomping and cameras rolling.
