J. Geils, Jeff Pitchell, Gerry Beaudoin & Texas Flood - Jonathan's Ogunquit

92 Bourne Lane
Ogunquit, Maine 03907
Phone: (207) 646-4777

Jul 06, 2012. J. Geils needs no introduction around these parts. Fresh from his reunion with the full J. Geils Band in August along with Aerosmith at Fenway Park, producer, writer, and sports car restoration expert J. Geils is a rockin' master of the blues. Known for several huge classic hits and a soulful approach to the blues, J has now been nominated for the Rock Hall of Fame. Team him up with Jeff Pitchell & Texas Flood and you have a show not to be missed. Jeff has been blistering the paint off the walls of most clubs in the New England area for some years now and he is one of the hottest guitar slingers on the circuit, drawing comparisons to Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan. His CD, Heavy Hitter, reached #7 on the Billboard Charts. Along with Texas Flood they tear up a rich mix of R & B, Rock, Soul and funky Texas Blues. Also on the bill at the Bull is very special guest Gerry Beaudoin, who will add his own sassy guitar to the mix for a rare night of dance and frenzy. Together they will be playing some of the J. Geils Band hits as well as some of Jeff's songs and, of course, blues, blues, blues. Concert at 8 p.m. Event #7911   Map + Directions   |   Report Update

Peter Yarrow - The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor

86 Townsend Avenue
Boothbay Harbor, Maine 04538
Phone: (207) 633-5159

Jul 07, 2012. In the decades prior to the 1960s, through the work of such avatars as Woody Guthrie, the Weaver and Pete Seeger, folk music was identified with sociopolitical commentary, but the idiom had been forced underground in the Senator Joe McCarthy witch-hunting era of the late '50s. By the time Peter, Paul & Mary arrived on the scene, folk music was viewed a side-bar to pop music. Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey and Mary Travers came together to reclaim folk's potency as a social, cultural and political force, but few could have realized how fervently and pervasively the group's message of humanity, hope and activism would be embraced. Tonight we welcome Peter Yarrow to the Opera House stage. Join us for this special evening. Advance Tickets $25, day of show tickets $30. Doors for seating open at 7:30 p.m., concert at 8 p.m. For tickets call the Box office at (207) 633-5159 or go online at the Title link above. Event #8030   Map + Directions   |   Report Update

Janis Ian - Jonathan's Ogunquuit

92 Bourne Lane
Ogunquit, Maine 03907
Phone: (207) 646-4777

Jul 26, 2012. Who are the great songwriters in America today? Not the most popular. Not the richest. Simply the greats. Ask any student of the form, and Janis Ian will be counted among them. The writer of "Jesse," a song recorded by so many others that few remember Ian wrote it; "Stars," possibly the best song ever written about the life of a performer, and the seminal "At Seventeen," a song that brought her five Grammy nominations in 1975. Ian is a formidable talent, a force of nature. Ella Fitzgerald called her "the best young singer in America." Chet Atkins said "Singer? You ought to hear that girl play guitar; she gives me a run for my money!" Reviewers have called her live performances "overwhelming to the spirit and soul," and "drenched with such passion, the audience feels they've been swept up in a hurricane." Performance at 8 p.m. Event #7910   Map + Directions   |   Report Update

Hot Club of Cowtown - The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor

86 Townsend Avenue
Boothbay Harbor, Maine 04538
Phone: (207) 633-5159

Jul 27, 2012. Since their first recording in 1998, the Austin-based Hot Club of Cowtown have grown to be the most globe-trotting, hardest-swinging Western swing trio on the planet. The first American band to tour Azerbaijan, they have opened stadiums for such artists as Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson and continue to bring their brand of western swing to a wide range of festival audiences all over the world. But for guitarist Whit Smith, fiddler Elana James and bassist Jake Erwin, it has always been about staying true to their roots. Remaining willfully out of the musical mainstream, Hot Club of Cowtown have created an international cult following for their sonic personification of joy and unique sound inspired by their namesakes: "Hot Club" from the hot jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli's Hot Club of France, and "Cowtown" from the Western swing influence of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys. Concert at 8 pm, doors for seating open at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets $17, day of show tickets $22. For tickets or info contact the box office at (207) 633-5159 or online at the Title link above.
