Hike for Mike, a fundraiser for the Acadia Family Center, offers participants the opportunity to engage in a healthy, outdoor activity and to learn about the trails and carriage roads in Acadia National Park while raising funds to improve the health and wellness on MDI and the outer islands. Hike for Mike is 9-day event, kicking off on Saturday, October 1 (starting out in Southwest Harbor at the Acadia Family Center), followed by a week of hiking the trails and carriage roads of Acadia National Park, and ending on Sunday, October 9 at the Summit Celebration. Oct 02, 2011. The Women's Fall Expo, held at the Spectacular Events Center in Bangor, is a benefit for The Make a Wish Foundation of Maine. A great event for the whole family, the expo will consist of 3 rooms; 1 room will have 35-40 of your favorite vendors & businesses offering their services and products, 1 room will have all of the basket raffles donated from local stores and our participating vendors & businesses, and the last room will have activity booths for the entire family (including free locks of love haircuts by Serendipity, a massage therapist, and face painting). All proceeds from the basket raffles, and a portion of the proceeds from the events room will be donated to the The Make a Wish Foundation of Maine. Please help us to Share the Power of a Wish! Eastern Maine Pagan Pride Association hosts Their second annual Pagan Pride Day on Saturday, October 8, 2011, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Herbert Sargent Community Center in Old Town, Maine. Admission: A donation of a non-perishable food item which will be donated to a local food cupboard in need. The mission of the Pagan Pride Project is to foster pride in Pagan identity through education, activism, charity and community. So much to see and do! Join a workshop or discussion, watch a performance, and take a look at the many fine wares offered by local pagan vendors. Eastern Maine Pagan Pride's Travelling Red Tent will be set up for women who are interested with a workshop open to everyone on what the Red Tent is and hopes to achieve. We are looking for more volunteers to welcome people, give information, supervise the raffle table, and help with the kids tent. Oct 09, 2011. Brooks Historical Society will hold its annual Fall Heritage Day Open House with craftspeople at work from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pilley House, 11 Moosehead Trail. Visitors will see old-time crafts peformed in a friendly setting. Many interesting items, research materials and memorabilia are on display. Videos of interviews with local people are available. Free refreshments will be served on the porch. There is no admission fee, but free-will donations are gratefully accepted. Brody Award for Distinguished Judicial Service in 2010, recently left the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts to join the faculty of Harvard Law School. Her memoir, In Defense of Women: Memoirs of an Unrepentant Advocate, has recently been released to rave reviews. Judge Gertner will discuss her feeling that the United States Supreme Court has not moved adequately in the area of equal rights protection.
