Oct 21 thru Nov 08 - Bangor - Forever Plaid - Bangor Opera House

One of the most popular musicals in recent memory, this delicious revue centers on four young, eager male singers who were killed in a collision with a bus filled with Catholic schoolgirls on their way to see The Beatles live on The Ed Sullivan Show. Miraculously, the boy are revived for a posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was. Singing in perfect harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with over-zealous precision, the "Plaids" are guaranteed to be a smash hit, with beloved songs and delightful patter that will keep you rolling in the aisles when you're not humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the '50s.

Winterblue Theatre presents the classic "Miss Julie" by August Strindberg. Considered the father of modern drama, Strindberg wrote this riveting story of mutual seduction between a count's daughter and her valet in 1888, but its tumultuous give and take battle between the sexes holds just as much punch and ultimate tragedy for contemporary audiences. (The play was most recently produced on Broadway in 2005.) Adding to the sexual tension between Miss Julie and Jean as their flirtation builds to a fevered consummation on Midsummer Eve in Sweden, this production features the world-class, live music of Portland's own, Ed Pearlman of Highland Soles. Performances at 8 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Phone (207) 400-6338 for ticket information.

Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Clause by Andrew J. Fenady. Based on the Teleply by Val DeCrowl and Andrew J. Fenady. Inspired by a simple, poignant letter written over 100 years ago by 8-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon to the editor of the New York Sun-and by the timelss editorial response printed on the front page of the Sun. Virginia wondered and wrote: "Dear Editor, I am eight years old. Some of my friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says if you see him in the Sun, it's so. Please tell me the truth. Is there a Santa Claus?" Ed Mitchell, the Sun's editor, gives the assignment of answering Virginia's question to Frank Church, who, until his wife and baby died last Christmas Eve, was the Sun's best and most dependable reporter. Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus is a play for young and old, magically reaffirming life's highest beauty and joy-"the eternal light with which childhood fills the world.

Travel back in time to Victorian England where ghosts, time travel, and memories help a cold and lonely old miser regain his heart. Our adaptation remains remarkably true to Dickens' original book. Dickens' story seems best told in his words, allowing audiences to hear the richness of his language, and to experience the story of Scrooge's encounters with the spirits of past, present, and yet-to-come in the way that the author intended.

Over The Tavern - Part II King o' the Moon transports the Pazinskis from the conservative '50s to the rebellious '60s. Rudy, now 22, is a seminary student honoring his father's deathbed wish that his son should become a priest, Brother Eddie is married, on the brink of fatherhood, and about to ship out for Vietnam. As the play opens on July 18, 1969, Apollo 11 is about to land on the moon; Rudy has gone AWOL from the seminary to participate in his first anti-war protest; Sister Annie is contemplating divorce; and romance is blooming for Rudy's widowed mom, Ellen. The new play--like the decade in which it is set--has a greater urgency and sharper realism than its predecessor, as the adult Pazinskis tackle grown-up issues like divorce, remarriage, war and draft-evasion.
