Craig Brook National Fish HatcheryCraig Brook National Fish Hatchery

Craig Brook hatches Atlantic salmon to replenish seven Maine rivers with more than 2 million young salmon per year.  The hatchery offers exhibits about the environment and Maine's Atlantic salmon, including a stream model with running water featuring live young salmon.

 

 

Cross Island National Wildlife RefugeCross Island National Wildlife Refuge

Part of the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge complex. The Cross Island National Wildlife Refuge covers six islands (Cross, Scotch, Outer and Inner Double Head Shot, Mink and Old Man Islands) that encompasses 1,700 acres in the town of Cutler.  Supports white-tailed deer, bald eagles, ospreys and song birds.

 

Franklin Island National Wildlife RefugeFranklin Island National Wildlife Refuge

Twelve acre island about 6 miles from the town of Friendship, Maine on Muscongus Bay.  Find nesting gulls, eiders,  black-crowned night herons, Leach's storm petrels, and ospreys.  Also on the island is the historic Franklin Island Light.

 

 

Lake Umbagog Wildlife RefugeLake Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge

The Lake Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge spans the border of Northern New Hampshire and Maine over the waters of Lake Umbagog, which at 10 miles long is one of the largest lakes bordering the two states.  However, the average lake depth is only 15 feet.  Find nesting bald eagles, moose and other wildlife.

 

 

Moosehorn National Wildlife RefugeMoosehorn National Wildlife Refuge and Moosehorn Nat'l Wildlife Refuge

Over 17,000 acres near Calais, Maine and over 7,200 acres near Cobscook Bay.  Moosehorn is the easternmost national wildlife refuge in the Atlantic flyway, a migration route following the east coast of North America.  Several bald eagle families nest on the refuge, along with more than 200 other bird species.  The site includes directions and a map.

 

Petit Manan National Wildlife RefugeMaine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge and Maine Coastal - FWS

Formerly known as the Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge.  Its 7,300 acres spread over 43 islands and three mainland units (near Milbridge) and it spans 200 miles of Maine coastline.  It includes 5 national wildlife refuges: Petit Manan, Cross Island, Franklin Island, Seal Island and Pond Island.  Seabirds, wading birds and bald eagles nest within, alongside the Petit Manan Lighthouse and others lights that are located in the refuge.
