The Downeaster
Amtrak's Downeaster train runs the following route and stops: Boston - Woburn - Haverhill - Exeter - Durham - Dover - Wells - Saco - Old Orchard Beach - Portland.  See each of these links for station information and train schedules.

Maine Eastern Railroad
Tour the Maine coast by train on the Maine Eastern Railroad.  Its passenger railroad fleet offers restored streamlined stainless steel railcars from the art-deco era of the 1940s and 1950s, fully rebuilt to 21st century standards.  A restored British Columbia railway dining car features Downeast cuisine served cafe style, and is the social setting for a narrated discussion of the scenery and historic highlights of the 50-mile route from Brunswick, with stops in Bath, Wiscasset (near Boothbay Harbor) and Rockland.

Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad
Non-profit resurrection of a two-foot gauge railroad that first operated in 1879.  On operating days, take a short ride through the woods behind a replica of Sandy River locomotive #4 hauling passengers in either an 1884 vintage coach and/or a caboose built in the 1980's.  Ride includes a walking/talking tour of the site of the covered bridge and 4 stall roundhouse.  The swaying of the passenger cars, clickety-clack of wheels, rumble of the locomotive and sound of the whistle are sure to bring back the past.
